Rev. Charles J. McCoy MILTON Rev. Charles J. McCoy, a retired priest of the Archdiocese of Boston, died Monday, November 30, 2009 at Caritas Saint Elizabeth Medical Center. He was 83 years old. Born and raised in South Boston, he was a graduate of Boston College High School (Class of 1943), Boston College and earned a Master of Education degree in 1952 from Boston University. During World War II, he served in the Marine Corps for three years. He taught history and coached football at BC High, entering St. Johns Seminary in 1956, being ordained in 1961. Fr. McCoy was briefly assigned to parishes in Scituate and Somerville before heading to St. Sebastians School. He then began a 24 year career in the US Navy as a member of the Chaplain Corps, retiring to become pastor of St. Philip Neri Parish in Waban. Fr. McCoy also assisted at Saint Elizabeth Church, Milton. Beloved son of the late Charles J. and Louise (Mahoney) McCoy. Brother of the late Louise Mary McCoy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Gate of Heaven Church, 615 East Fourth Street, South Boston, Friday, December 4 at 11:00 a.m. His Eminence Cardinal Sean P. OMalley will be the principal celebrant. Fr. McCoy will lie-in-state at Loyola Chapel at Boston College High School, Thursday 4 - 8 p.m. Interment New Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Fr. McCoy may be made to the McCoy Family Scholarship at Boston College High School, 150 Morrissey Blvd., Dorchester, MA 02125.
