Palmer resident Brandon Dean McManamy, 17, died June 21, 1998, at Finger Lake as a result of a canoeing accident. A funeral was held at the Family Christian Center, 203 W. Dogwood, Palmer. A visitation was held at Kehl's Palmer Mortuary Chapel, 209 S. Alaska St., Palmer, and also for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment followed in Palmer Pioneer Cemetery. The Rev. Peter Gallardo officiated. Pallbearers were Joshua Menard, Joseph Hebert, Lance Fleury, Chris Erickson, Jason Baskett, Steve Cole, Doyle Miller and Jeremy Miller.

Brandon was born Sept. 25, 1980, in Anchorage, to Donald F. and Alicia (Menard) McManamy. At the time of his death he was a student at Colony High School in Palmer. According to his family, ''Brandon was a lifelong Alaskan who grew up on the shores of Finger Lake. He enjoyed being outdoors to fish and camp with his family and friends. Brandon was a quiet and thoughtful person who didn't say much but who always had a warm and loving smile for everyone he met. He attended Colony High School where he had many friends and he loved to hang out and play basketball. His friends will remember him as a generous and kind person who was ever ready to jump in and lend a hand when needed. He was described as polite, compassionate and generous by the many adults who knew him. ... His sense of humor was always ready to surface in unusual and unexpected ways.''

Brandon is survived by his mother and stepfather, Alicia and Mark Dunlap; sister, Rachel Dunlap, all of Palmer; grandparents, Rosetta and Milton Menard of Wasilla, and Louise and John Ritchey of Washington; uncles, Jim Menard of Anchorage, and Rian Dunlap of Texas; aunts, Shelly Peterson and Kelley Woods of Washington, Tonie Roberts of Palmer, Becky Elder of Arizona; cousins, Joshua and Jeremy Menard of Anchorage; Melody, Meagan and Joel Peterson of Washington, and Ryan and Jena Roberts of Palmer. Arrangements for the family were made by Kehl's Palmer Mortuary.
