Born Dec. 27, 1925, in Marcella, he was the son of Thomas Green Mitchell and Mary Cross Mitchell. He was a retired chief petty officer with the U.S. Navy, where he served during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
Survivors include a son, Junior Mitchell of Concord; a daughter, Doris Wood of Sulphur Rock; a sister, Mary Ward Clifton of Monticello; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Calvin Mitchell, Ralph Mitchell and Jewell Mitchell; and two sisters, Jean Wood and Maxine Clifton.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Willis-Hays Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will be in Bassett Cemetery in Bassett.
Pallbearers will be Gary Wood, Greg Wood, Chuckie Doyle, Charles Barker, Justin Doyle and Jimmy Mitchell.
Honorary pallbearers are Ross Nelson, Jimmy Bains, Billy Joe Bains and Gary David Wood.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight.
