She was born August 21, 1935, in Springfield, Missouri, the daughter of Herbert M. and Ethel Hankins Cockrell. She married Albert E. Holmes, Jr., on March 16, 1957, in Edinburg. She retired from the Illinois Department of Revenue. She attended the Way of Life Church in Taylorville and was a former member of the Christian County Genealogical Society.
Surviving are her husband, son, Ronald R. Holmes of Taylorville; daughter Vickie Lynn Holmes of Edinburg; grandchildren: Nicholas A. Edwards, Michelle I. Holmes, BriAnne Holmes, Justin G.E. Edwards; Richie R. Holmes and George A. Holmes; brothers: David M. Cockrell of Klammath Falls, OR, Herbert M. Cockrell of Kincaid and William Cockrell of Greencastle, IN; and three sisters: Sylvia June Poynter of Durango, CO, Marilyn L Glaze and Jackie Sue Hendricks, both of Springfield, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter, Lacie Lynn Bernadette Edwards.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 27, in Connolly-McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville. Burial will be in Edinburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 26, in the funeral home.
