John Hamilton "Jack" Barnes is a son of William A. Barnes & Rebecca Jane Daniel. He left Stewart County, TN some time after 1860, and lived near Daniel relatives in Wayne County, IL. In Feb., 1864, Jack enlisted in the Mounted Infantry of the Union Army in Paducah, KY. He musted out in Nashville, TN in June, 1865. Uncle Jack married Vitura Elvira Hopkins in the mid to late 1860's. They lived in Illinois, Tennessee & Missouri. Jack moved to Missouri some time after 1880. In the Spring of 1887, Jack made his way back home to Stewart County,TN, and he died in early May, 1887. Family stories of "Uncle Jack" have been told over and over, and they are still shared today.
