ANN KELSEY, 72, died Dec. 10, 2000, in Palmer at Valley Hospital after a brief illness. A memorial service was at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in Palmer. Interment was at the Palmer Pioneer Cemetery immediately after the service. A memorial service was held Dec. 20 in Valdez at the First Baptist Church.

She was born in Langley, Ark., March 1, 1928. Her residence in Alaska began in 1956. She lived principally in Anchorage, Juneau, Palmer and Valdez. She married lifelong Valdez resident Bob Kelsey in Palmer in 1981. Her long cooking career included working for the Anchorage Westward Hotel as a chef and serving as a personal cook for Gov. and Mrs. Bill Egan in Juneau. Her volunteer activities were many, including several years on the Valdez Museum board, involvement in the Elks, the Pioneers of Alaska, and participation in the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary as state president.

She is survived by her husband, Bob; children, Bill Kendall of Wasilla, Rob Kendall of Anchorage, Jim Kendall of Wasilla, Dan Kendall of Eagle River and Susan Nelson of Wasilla; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Mrs. Kelsey's name to St. John's Community School, P.O. Box 771107, Eagle River 99577 or to Eagles Auxiliary College Fund, P.O. Box 323, Valdez 99686 Arrangements were by by Kehl's Palmer Mortuary.
