John W. Person's services held Saturday

Falls County historian and former businessman John W. Pearson, 65, died
Thursday, January 15, 1998, in a Temple hospital, following a long battle with
cancer.

Services were held Saturday morning at the Powers Chapel Tabernacle with Rev.
James Green and Rev. Bill Dozier officiating. Burial was in his beloved Powers
Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Pearson was born January 3, 1933, in Rosebud. He lived all of his life in
the Rosebud area. After high school, he joined the Army and was stationed at
West Point. He worked for General Tire Company in Waco and later owned and
operated Pearson Grocery in Wilderville. He also farmed and ranched.

He was known as the Falls County historian. He spent may hours compiling
information on the early settlers and families in Falls and surrounding
counties. He Headed a committee to apply for and provide government monuments
for the many veterans of all wars who were buried in the Powers Chapel Cemetery.
He also served as sexton for the Powers Chapel Cemetery for many years. He was
a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include his mother, Myrtle Pearson of Rosebud, a brother, Bill Pearson
of Waco; two sisters, Ann Harris of Waco and Nadine Gullett of Montrose,
Colorado, and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Lenard Wieser, Greg Griffin, Mike Pearson, James Bell, Bunce
Walston, Wendell White, and Billy Joe Springer.
