He married Lucy Findley, the sister of Minerva Findley who married his brother Isaac Dowdy.

Since the creation of these memorials, it has been found that other memorials have been created by others who showed them with variant or incorrect spellings, and "burial place unknown" and/or later put them in the wrong cemetery and some were only later moved to the correct cemetery. To compound matters, other cousins have gone to the actual cemetery at Asbury (on private property, though access is allowed bi-annually by the owners) and taken photos of several of the markers and then uploaded these markers to the memorials placed in the wrong cemetery, the Shoal Creek Cemetery at Arab, when that is not at all where those photos were taken.
