John was a graduate of Spring Branch Senior High School, Houston, Texas "CLASS OF 1960"

I want to tell the story about my visit to Houston in 1956, visiting my sister, and on the way driving from Portland we stopped at a road side park somewhere in Idaho. Soda Springs or something along that line. While we were resting and having lunch, my stepdad to be, saw a natural soda springs where you could take a taste of the water if you so desired and I thought what the heck, and took a swig. I couldn't spit it out fast enough, worst tasting water I'd ever had.

Anyway, we made it into Houston, and one day during our 2 week stay, my sister's husbands cousin, Johnny, whom I'd met when I came down for my sisters wedding in 1955, called and asked for me. He wanted me to go have a "soda water" with him and I politely said "no thanks" and hung up. My sister asked me what he wanted and I told her, and she asked what time he was going to pick me up? I told her I had told him no and boy did she get pissed because he was reaching out to make me welcome. After she chewed me out, I said well "I tried that Soda Water in Idaho and once was enough"!

As I found out, Johhny meant what we Yankees referred to as Pop!
