A. Truman Stone, 77, of Waco, died monday, December 23, 1996, in Waco. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 27, 1996, at Cole Funeral Home Chapel in McGregor, with Rev. Bill Agee officiating. Interment will follow in McGregor Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, December 26, 1996, at the funeral home.
Alvin Truman was born in Ennis, Texas, to the late Cole and Ethel High Stone. His family moved to McGregor where he became a member of the McGregor Bulldog football team, graduating in 1936. On June 26, 1937, he married Velma L. Cox in Gatesville.
Truman served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946, during World War II, in Germany. He was awarded the American Theater Campaign Medal, EAME Campaign Medal with 1 Bronze Star, the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the V.F.W., the American Legion Post 273, and Masonic Lodge 376. He was employed with Hooker Construction Company for over 40 years.
Survivors include his wife, Velma; son, Henry Stone and wife, Judy, of McGregor; daughter, Martha Jarosek and husband, Bud, of Speegleville; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Pat Stone, of Santa Fe; sisters, Betty Neal, of Lorena, Neta Abbe and Ione Zacharias, both of McGregor; many other relatives and friends.
