Lavina Frances Black, daughter of Robert and Sarah Black, was born in Orange county, Ind., August 8, 1850. She came to Illinois with her parents in 1864, joined the United Brethren church in 1868. At no time did she ever waiver from that faith in Christ.
She was united in marriage to Zachria (sic) Compton in 1872. To this union one child was born, Clara Compton Whitehead.
Remaining a widow 33 years, she was united in marriage to Martin Pritchett in 1909, who preceded her in death seven years ago.
She was a member of a family of nine children, two sisters and three brothers having preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her going, one daughter, Mrs. Clara Whitehead of West Salem; four grandchildren, Robert, Martha, Helen and Forrest Whitehead; one brother, James Black; two sisters, Parmelia Reynolds and Emily Reaugh; a number of other relatives and a host of friends. She departed this life June 28, 1927 at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 10 days.
Aunt Levina was one of God's noble women. High ideals, a loving appreciative disposition and in her declining years enriched the lives of all who come in contact with her.
