Robert W. Burge was a son of Larkin and Penelope Nancy Durham who were married in Henry County Virginia in 1797. Robert Burge was born on May 10, 1831 in Critz, Patrick County, Virginia. He married Elizabeth Moorefield born October 1838 on December 2, 1852. They owned a farm in Patrick County Virginia. On August 1, 1861, Robert volunteered in CO H 42nd Regiment of Virginia Troops. He fought at Gettysburg,, Petersburg, and was possibly at Appomattox Court House when General Lee surrendered the Confederate Army to General Grant. After the war, Robert and Elizabeth moved the family to Stokes County in the Westfield Community. They had seven children: Samuel, William R. (Bill), Augustus (Gus) T., Emmett Turner, Walter, Thomas Pinkney (Pink) and Etta (Lula). Robert died in 1914 and Elizabeth in 1916. They he and his wife and Samuel are buried about 1500 feet south of Rosebud Church at 1616 State Rd. 1938, Walnut Cove, North Carolina.
