Potter Fire Chief Arthur M. DeLap, 71, died of a heart attack Tuesday while en route to a fire at the Robert Wittmann farm home south of the village of Potter. Mr. DeLap was born Feb. 2, 1886 at Footville, Wis., and was married Aug. 16, 1915, at Montello, Wis., to Miss Marie Cook. The couple moved to their present home at Potter in 1917 where he was a depot agent for the Soo Line for 40 years. He retired Nov. 4, 1955, when the station was permanently closed. He served as fire chief at Brillion for 29 years and took an active part in safety league work and fire drill school activities. He was also a member of the Brillion Masonic Lodge.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. William (Blanche) Kemp Jr., of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Mrs. Elmer (Loretta) Kinast of Berwyn, Ill.; one sister, Mrs. Mary Tangney of Wisconsin Dells; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One son, Earl, was killed in action at Iwo Jima in 1945.
