Son of Jacob and Mary (Swoveland) Black. Aged 77 yrs, 10 mos, 5 days.

Altoona Mirror, Friday, 13 March 1914:

"G. Samuel Black of Eldorado, died suddenly of heart failure last night at 11 o'clock as he was sitting in his armchair preparing to read the evening paper. He was a trucker and had worked all day, returning home in apparently the best of health. After the evening meal he took the newspaper and settled comfortably in his chair. At 11 o'clock his daughter went to arouse him, thinking that he had fallen asleep. He was dead, having passed away a short time before. He was born in this county, at Canan's station, on May 7, 1836, and had resided in that vicinity all his life. In November, 1859, he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah C. Carls, who died nineteen years ago. These children survive: Mrs. David Williams of Winterset, Pa.; Jacob H. of Swissvale; Ralph W. and Adie E., and Kenneth K., all of Eldorado; Charles C., of this city; Misses E. Dora, Myrtle M., and Ellie B., all at home. Three brothers also survive: Adam S., of Davenport, Ia., Captain John Black of Duncansville, and G.W., of Eldorado. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran church and had been identified with that denomination throughout his entire life. He was a faithful churchman and was a prominent member of the Eldorado grange. Funeral services will occur Sunday from his late residence at 2:30 o'clock, followed by interment in Eldorado cemetery."
