The I.J.'s good friend, W.G.Ball, of King City, MO, renewing his subscription for another year writes: "I am a Kentucky boy, born in Garrard County, on the banks of Dix River, four miles west of Lancaster, on July 8th 1846, and was raised just a mile west, across the neck of Lincoln, in the edge of Boyle, on the cliff of the Hanging Fork, one mile from its mouth, six miles east of Danville, joining Sam Baughman. I would like to know whether J.H. Baughman is his boy; (He is - ED.) I got my wife among my mother's people, near Waynesburg. I have a host of cousins, the Caldwells and Reynolds and others. I like to read about them in the I.J. We are having fine weather in Missouri and everything is looking fine."

Dear Old Journal: Please find enclosed $1 to move my figures up for another year. I may not live to read it. I was 70 my last birthday, the 8th of July. Tomorrow, the 27th, is my 50th wedding anniversary. I was married at Susan A. Reynolds' on Fishing Creek near Waynesburg, on Sept. 27th, 1866. Cousin E.B. Caldwell, Jr., was married at the same time. We were married by that old veteran of the Cross, W.T. Reynolds. As I was away from home, we took our infair dinner with Cousin Ed at his father's home, the late H.W. Caldwell. Cousin E.B. and wife have both crossed that mystic river called Death, while Wife and I still linger on this side. How swiftly those 50 years have passed by!
