Deon "Butch" H. Swift II, 62, the mayor of Attica, died at 9:35 a.m Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at Home Hospital, Lafayette, following a short illness.
He was born in Lafayette on Oct. 22, 1947 to the late Deon Swift Jr. and Betty Zinsmeister Swift. He married Monica Lynn Parlier on Dec. 18, 1970 in Attica. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Chad Alan Swift of Attica and Brent Tyler Swift of Lafayette; a brother, Scot Alan Swift (wife: Shelley) of Attica; a grandson, Lukas Deon Swift, and a granddaughter, Sadie Ellen Swift, both of Attica; a niece, Ashley Katherine Swift Johnson (husband: Adam) of Tab and a great-nephew, Wrede Scot Johnson. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Susan Elizabeth "Sue Beth" Swift.
He was a life resident of Attica, graduating from Attica High School in 1966. He was a graduate of St. Joseph Junior College in Florida and later attended Vincennes University and Indiana State University.
He was elected mayor of Attica in November 1999, was serving his third term. He also worked at Harrison Steel Castings Co. in Attica for 39 1/2 years, where he was presently serving as supervisor of facilities.
