Palmer resident Vincent Edward Tubbs, 46, died Feb. 13, 2007, at home surrounded by his family after a long fight with colon cancer A funeral was at Palmer High School, 1170 W. Arctic Ave., in Palmer, with Bishop Garth Grover officiating. Visitation was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Arctic Avenue. Burial was at the Palmer Pioneer Cemetery. Pallbearers were his sons, Steel and Ean; sons-in-law, Rusty Weathersby and Brian Kane; brothers, Sid and Greg; brother-in-law, Brooke Denkers; and friend, Kay Omer.

Mr. Tubbs was born April 12, 1960, in Pocatello, Idaho. He graduated from Palmer High School in 1978, and attended Ricks College and Utah State University. He had been an Alaska resident since 1970. He worked for Matanuska Telephone Association for 25 years, at Matanuska School District as a football coach and Alaska Schools Athletic Association as a soccer referee. Mr. Tubbs had 25 years of devoted service to youth football and other sports. He was a Sunday school teacher. He loved to sing, coach his kids, and run and wrestle. He also loved his family; that was his hobby. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His family wrote: "Vince was a loving, caring husband, father and grandfather. He was a man of God who devoted his life to serve others. He was a strong spirit who would do anything for those who needed help. He was a teacher in all that he did; he was a true example to all who met him. Vince had a great knowledge of the game and for inspiring players to be the best they can be. Go Moose! Let's get 'em."

He is survived by his wife, Kory of Palmer; daughters, Brieann Weathersby and Amber Tubbs of Palmer, Vanessa Kane of Eagle River, and Mitzi McCarthy of Idaho; sons, Steel and Ean of Palmer; parents, Sue and Ted Tubbs of Palmer; brothers, Alex, Sid and Greg, all of Idaho; sons-in-law, Rusty Weathersby of Palmer, Brian Kane of Eagle River, and Evan McCarthy of Idaho; granddaughters, Kira and Harley Weathersby of Palmer and Kloie of Idaho; and grandsons, Caleb and Gavin McCarthy of Idaho. He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vincent Tubbs Memorial Fund at Mat-Su Valley Federal Credit Union.
