Rev Lorenzo Dow Caldwell born son of Ferguson and Lydia Shireman Caldwell, on March 3,1834. He marr May 14,1857.to Susanna Mathias,. They were parents of five children.after Susnna's death Rev Caldwell marr on Oct 29,1867 to Sarah M.Souder. she was dau of Jacob and Eveline Dove Souder.
Rev Caldwell a pioneer preacher.always traveled horseback and was often called to make long journeys through the mountains to assit in the annointing services to preach funerals.and solemnize marriages.
In his time he baptized 208 applicants,preached 300 funerals and solemnized 696 marriages. Rev Caldwell died Nov 27,1923 at the age of 89 years old. He lived at Mathias WV. and is buried in the Caldwell Cemetery on Cullers Run Rd in Mathias ,WV.
Rev Caldwell's wife Sarah M Souder was a sister to Silas May's wife.Mary C Souder who was living in Bennetts Run.Because of this,Rev Caldwell and his wife had family connections with Bennetts Run area.
