Kathleen Ann Irwin, 67, Kokomo, passed away at 6:57 am Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at St Vincent Hospital in Kokomo. She was born December 21, 1949, in Camp Kilmer, New Jersey. She was the daughter of the late John & Hazel (Sumpter) Cherry. On February 12, 1982, in Burlington, she married James E. Irwin who preceded her in death on May 25, 2013.

Kathleen was a 1968 graduate of Northwestern High School. She retired in 1989 from Delco Electronics, where she had worked in assembly, and later wrote technical manuals. Kathleen was a member of Bible Baptist Church, and had a love of prayer. She had a passion for baking cookies and looked forward to spending “Cookie Days” with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Kathleen made sure that friends and family’s special days were celebrated with stickers and cards.

Kathleen is survived by her son, Jason (Michela) Phillabaum, Kokomo; stepsons, Jimmy (Chris) Irwin, Kokomo, Ronnie (Karen) Irwin, Noblesville, Bobby (Monica) Irwin, Westfield, and Jeff Irwin, Zionsville; grandchildren, Carrie Lahr, Codey Sattler, Clayton Phillabaum, Corbin Phillabaum, Charley Fischer, Carter Phillabaum, T.J. Fischer, Holly Irwin, Brady Irwin, Ben Irwin, Karly Irwin, Tiffany (Jacob) Barnes, Brianne (Brian) Dale, Avery Irwin, and Aliyah Irwin, along with 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, Patrick (Marquita) Cherry, Carolyn “Susie” (Michael) Beightol, and Dennis (Angela) Cherry; and sisters-in-law, Dianne Cherry, and Judy Cherry.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Scott Phillabaum, brothers, John Cherry, Ronald Cherry, and Michael Cherry, and sister, Beverly Kniesly.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, December 15, 2017, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Pastor Keith Treadway officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4-8 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
