Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with the Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be in St. Ansgar Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7:30 p.m. today at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar, with a 6:30 p.m. Scripture service. There will be additional visitation one hour prior to services at the church.
John Boerjan was born to August and Mary (Baker) Boerjan in Plymouth, Iowa, on February 24, 1919. When he was a year old, his family moved to a farm south of St. Ansgar, where he farmed until his retirement in 1978.
He was united in marriage to Marie Rogers on November 8, 1950, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. Besides his farming duties, he found time for other activities supporting his community. He was a 4-H leader, president of the ARC, and active as a Farm Bureau member for St. Ansgar Township.
John and Marie donated and assisted in moving the log cabin from their farm to where it now stands on the Mitchell County fairgrounds in Osage.
John was recognized in a national magazine for innovative hog building construction and was well-known in the area especially by children for his pony rides at area carnivals. He also sold monuments for 31 years.
He was preceded in death by two children, Graig and Beth; two sisters, Ida Taets and Minnie Heitland, and four brothers, Frank, Henry, George, and Ben.
He is survived by his wife, Marie, of St. Ansgar; two daughters, Cindy (Joe) Sams of Minneapolis, and Sheryl (Jim) Krebsbach of Stacyville; four sons, Denis (Martha), Lee (Theresa), Paul (Donna), all of St. Ansgar and Dale of Amery, Wis. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
