My grandmother, Laura Rosetta was born on Dec 9th, 1911, in Haywood County NC. She married Charlie Albert Matthews on Dec 15, 1928. They had two sons, Coyt and Bobby and seven grandchildren.
Rosetta was known for the fruit cakes she made at Christmas and gave away. She was a sweet loving grandmother and is dearly missed. Some of the special times I remember was when she would set up TV trays for lunch for us to eat grilled (homemade) pimento cheese sandwiches while watching our soap operas 'As the World Turns' and 'The Guiding Light'. She was a really good cook and was a big fan of the Betty Feezer Cooking Show. Rosetta attended Flint Groves Baptist Church and Gaston Avenue Church of God.
She died at Gaston Memorial Hospital on her birthday just 6 weeks after her husband Charlie. She was 72 years old. Rosetta was hospitalized for arthritis but somehow accidentally aspirated. Staff at the hospital gave conflicting stories as to the circumstances surrounding her death. Whatever happened, she left us way too early.
