Isaac Eugene 'Gene' Mayfield
Isaac Eugene "Gene" Mayfield, 67, Horton, died Monday, July 9, 2007, at the home of his son, north of Horton.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Horton. Burial will be at Round Mound Cemetery, near Cummings. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to NEK Hospice and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Mr. Hayfield worked as a mechanic for Ulrich Chevrolet for five years prior to working for Everest Motor Company until it closed. He worked as a welder at Hammersmith Manufacturing in Horton for 17 years and managed KVX, Walters Oil and later owned and operated Mayfield's Petro Junction for a total of 21 years. He was employed at Sac and Fox Casino, Powhattan, as a slot attendant for the last six years.

He was born May 4, 1940, in Atchison, the son of James Isaac and Deloris Pauline Ingels Mayfield. He had in the Everest-Horton area all of his life and attended schools in Everest, graduating from Everest High School with the class of 1958. He attended school in Kansas City to become a certified mechanic.

He married Connie Gunn on Nov. 18, 1962, in Everest. She survives. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Barbara Joan Mayfield.

Additional survivors include a daughter and her husband, Pamela and Shawn Strecker, Horton; two sons and their wives, Randy and Evva Mayfield, Hiawatha, and Michael and Shelly Mayfield, Topeka; two brothers, Robert Mayfield, Topeka, and Paul Mayfield, Grove, Texas; and six grandchildren.
