Mrs. Waddell was a daughter of Morford and Nancy Sipmson Throckmorton who were pioneers in Greene county. She was born three miles west of Waynesburg in the old Throckmorton homestead in Center township, on July 24, 1842, so that lacking eight days she was seventy-nine years old.
When a young woman she attended school in Waynesburg and later attended Waynesburg College.
She was united in marriage with George G. W. Waddell, whose death occurred forty-two years ago.
Mrs. Waddell was a member of the Presbyterian church and took an active part in church work. She regularly attended services until her failing health prevented it.
She was a charter member of the Waynesburg Woman's Christian Temperance Union and for many years was an active worker in the prohibition movement.
Mrs. Waddell is survived by two daughters and one son, Mrs. Isaac H. (Theodosia) Knox and Louis M. Waddell, of Waynesburg, and Mrs. Christopher R. (Blanche) Notman, of Pittsburg. One brother, E. R. Throckmorton, of Franklin township, also survives and there are four grandchildren.
