Ralph Virgil Buffington, 92, of Faribault, died Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Deaconess Towers.

He was born January 30, 1917 in Albion, Iowa the son of Earl and Cora (Lynch) Buffington. In 1927 at the age of ten his family moved to a farm between Dodge Center and Claremont, MN. He graduated from Dodge Center High School in 1934. He worked on farms and was in the CC Camp in Caledonia and Lanesboro, and picked by hand thousands of bushels of corn in Iowa in the 30's.

In 1941 he went to California and worked at the Locheed building, specifically on P38 airplanes. In 1942 he enlisted in the Army Air Cadets in Los Angeles, California. He spent much of the time in the service at the Hondo, TX, Navigation School training cadets. In August of 1945 he married Eunice Keith in San Antonio, TX. He left the service in December of 1945 and they moved to a farm near West Concord, MN.

In 1947, Virgil and Eunice moved to Kenyon where he farmed on until retirement. In 1961 Virgil was appointed Postmaster in Kenyon and held that position until 1969 to return to farming fulltime. In 1981, they retired to Cedar Lake near Morristown.

He is survived by daughters, Judy (and Louis) Ackman of Faribault, Pat (and Paul) Kotnour of Hastings, Marilyn (and Lowell) Lattin of Forest Lake, son, Kevin (and Dawn) Buffington of Austin, TX, eight grandchildren John (Cora) Starks, Tim (Amy) Ackman, Scott (Andrea Seven) Ackman, Kellie Lattin, Jennie Lattin Lisa Steinberg, and Daniel and Sara Buffington, and four great grandchildren Ruth Ann Starks, and Erin, Michael, and Elyn Ackman. One sister, Dorthy Kelley of Forney, TX, many nieces, nephews, friends, and beloved dog Teddy also survive him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Eunice of sixty years, brother Dale, and sister Maureen Strom.

Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home Kenyon on Sunday December 20, 2009 from 3- 6 PM. Please join us at the United Methodist Church/Kenyon on Monday from 11:30-12:30 PM for lunch and visitation prior to the funeral. Funeral service will be held Monday December 21, 2009 at 1:00 PM at United Methodist Church/Kenyon with Reverend Dana Houck officiating. Interment will be in the Concord Cemetery with military honors provided by the Kenyon Veteran Color Guard. Memorials are preferred to Deaconess Towers, Senior Companion Program, or the Faribault Area Hospice.
