Gene Edward Virgin, 65, of Union City died Sept. 2, 2004, at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis.
Services will be 3 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Union City with the Rev. John Archer and the Rev. Andrew Henry officiating. Burial will in Obion County Memorial Gardens. White-Ranson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He was a graduate of Union City High School and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where he earned a degree in engineering. He was the owner of Virgin's Nursery Inc., founded 57 years ago by his parents. He was a member of Union City First United Methodist Church, where he was a choir member, and was a member and past president of Union City Rotary Club. He had also been named a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary. He had been president of the Union City High School Band Parents organization and was a founding member of Northwest Tennessee Counseling Center, serving on that board from 1987-93, and Obion County Reading Railroad and Obion County Habitat for Humanity. He had also served on the Obion County Community Concerts board. He had been a founder of the former First Volunteer Bank, which later became First Citizens Bank in Union City.
