His nickname was "Red", which had double meaning because of his red hair and his initials R.E.D

He was a graduate of Muskingum Academy, New Concord, Ohio, and attended Ohio University, Athens, Ohio.

Ralph E Durr, 75, of 425 Elm St., Martins Ferry, died Friday, [October 2, 1981], at home.

He was born at Ludlow Falls, a [the only] son of Doctor William Edward Durr and Stella Rice Durr.

A retired industrial engineer for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp, Steubenville Plant, he was a member of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers, and the First United Presbyterian Church of Martins Ferry, where he served on all church boards.

Surviving are his wife, Naomi McMahon Durr; two daughters, Mrs. William (Claire) Suckel of St. Clairsville and Mrs. Michael (Karen) Zucker of Gaithersburg, Md.; one son, William Edward (Skip) Durr of Charlottesville, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Calvert of Stuart, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Members of the family will receive friends at the Heslop Funeral Home, Martins Ferry, from 7 to 9 p.m. today, and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, where services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Bill Lawrence officiating.

Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.
