ABSOLAM H. BACON came to Tishomingo County, MS in approximately 1905 with his brother, Charles. They settled in the Eastport area and accumulated a large sum of land. On December 15, 1908, they donated one-half acre of this land on Eastport Road where the Eastport Baptist Church was constructed and still is today.

Ab settled on the old Clement farm, where there was a large spring on the road in front of the house. In the early 1900s this spring was known as the Clement spring but today is know and named the Bacon spring. Ab made his living gathering and sorting seashells. Seashells were used for buttons and at the time sold for $10.50 per ton. In addition, he worked the river and farmed.

Absolam first married Cora Casteel in Posey County Indiana on Feb. 22, 1885 and is said to have had at least one child from this marriage based on family stories. He next married Elvira Saltzman of Indiana in 1891 and had eight children with her but only four lived to adulthood. After Elvira's death he married Minnie Alice Nunley in 1915 who died five days after giving birth to their only child, Minnie Hilda Bacon in 1916. His fourth wife was Nannie Taylor who had two children with him. Only one of Nannie's children, Absolam H. Bacon Jr., called Buster, lived to adulthood. An old family story states that Buster was sitting asleep on his father's lap, when Absolam Sr. died in 1929.
