JOHN WILLARD "TIDGE" MOORE

GALAX, Va. — John Willard "Tidge" Moore, 75, of 5490 Pipers Gap Road, Galax, formerly of Moore Hollow Road, near Spanishburg, died late Monday night, Dec. 12, 2005 at North Carolina Baptist Hospital, Winston-Salem, N.C.
Born April 3, 1930 in Maybeury, he was the son of the late Ray Ardith and Rosa Lee Harris Moore.
Tidge graduated from Athens High School and attended college. In 1951, he joined the U.S. Air Force to serve a career spanning more than 21 years. He served during the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam Conflict and other campaigns. He was awarded numerous medals and ribbons during his outstanding career and retiring as a Staff Sergeant. He had lived for many years in the Princeton area, only to move to Galax, a few months ago. He was a member of the Shawnee Baptist Church near Kegley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick "Buck" Moore and a sister, Frieda Mae Moore. Survivors include his loving and caring wife of 28 years, Genevieve Vinetta Rollins Moore; a daughter, Cleda Gay Hensley and husband, Steve of Spanishburg; grandson, David Saunders of Princeton; three stepgrandchildren, Brenda Adkins and husband, Boyd; Vicki Hensley and Missy Elliott, all of Spring Lake, N.C.; 10 step great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 16, 2005 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Ron Richards officiating. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery in Princeton. Military honors will be conducted at the graveside by the Headquarters Troop 150th Armored Company.
Serving as pallbeareres will be David Saunders, Richard Keene, Clifford Monk, Eddie Horton, Mike Crotty and Chris Richards. Friends may visit with the family today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and may share online condolence via www.memorialfd.com The family can be contacted at the home of his daughter, Cleda Hensley, 1732 Nubbins Ridge Road, (304) 487-9467.
