"Robert W. Patterson was among the American troops at the siege of the ancient city of Pueblo, in October, 1847, where he received a severe, though not necessarily fatal, wound in the head. Ambitious to be with his regiment, he exposed himself too soon, and in November of the same year, died in Pueblo. His mother drew $80 of his back pay and received the land warrant of 160 acres granted him by the Government."
