She was born in Mammoth, Utah on February 11, 1921. Her parents were Marith Eline Hagen and Hans Jacob Hegna from Norway.
She married Duane Sorenson on September 3, 1943 in a civil ceremony, and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Gladys is survived by her children, Curt Sorenson of Portland, Oregon; Randy Sorenson from Taylorsville; Eline Buratti (Richard) from Austin, Texas; Ken Sorenson (Dana) who resides in Louisiana, and Liz Halloran (Bob) of West Jordan. Her husband, Duane, passed away seven years ago.
Gladys stood by Duane during his military career in the Air Force. She met him when she was a secretary at Loma Linda Flying School, where Duane trained to become a World War II bomber pilot.
While Duane was overseas on various missions, Gladys was one who held the family together during multiple transfers throughout the world and the United States.
At last when Duane retired, they settled in Orem, Utah and lived there for almost thirty years. While there Gladys loved to garden, talk politics, and worked in real estate.
She often traveled to California to visit relatives and other states to see her children. She was a very generous, kind, and always helped those in need.
Since moving to West Jordan in the last ten years, her health had failed her. Finally, her body could hold on no longer despite her sharp, active mind. She knew us all in the end and to that we take great comfort.
Gladys' family will hold a graveside service at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive (1495 East), at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 21, 2009. Family and friends are invited to attend.
