Lynn was born on March 30, 1930 in Naponee, Nebraska to Josie and Toney Schimmels. He was the seventh of eight children. In 1935 his family moved to Idaho.

Lynn served in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict. On March 17, 1956 he married Imogene Bailey in Winnemucca, Nevada. Imogene had 3 children, Glenna Jean, Gearld Dean and Billie Sue who Lynn raised as his own. He worked at Ovaltine Food Products until the late 1980's and then went to work for Assembled Circuits until his retirement in 1995.

Imogene passed away in 1994. Lynn then moved to Iowa to be near his son Jerry and daughter-in-law Pam. and made many friends there; he was a caller at the Senior Citizens Bingo, went to car races, bluegrass festivals, camping and loved flea markets.

He was survived by a very special companion, Eileen Harper and his three children, eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and numereous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, five brothers: Myrl, Gerald, Winifred, Deloyd and Wayne, two sisters: Irene Sitts and Kathleen Morford.
