Descendants of Smith/Crowton family of Salt Lake City

To more accurately state Alice's name and marital history:
Alice Lauretta "Smith" [nee Welch, Munz] Charles.

She was the eleventh child/seventh daughter of William H.. and Amelia "Crowton" Smith.

Obituary - Alice L. Charles
Our much loved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Alice Charles, returned home to our Father In Heaven on February 28,1989, due to heart failure.

Alice was born December 24, 1907, in Salt Lake City, the daughter of Henry and Amelia Crowton Smith. She was the mother of four, June, Viola, Elaine, and Donald, she had 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter, and one surviving brother, Fred Smith.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 3rd, 11 am, in the Larkins Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, where friends may call Thursday evening, 6-8 pm, and Friday, the hour prior to services, Internment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.

Salt Lake Tribune, March 3, 1989

SL Tribune reported that a divorce from Allen (Herman) Munz was requested in July 1941 [they were married in 1936] but they were found together in city directories through 1951-52].

Her last husband was William David Charles, they married November 13, 1954 in Elko, NV. Apparently he was an avid sport fisherman and they traveled extensively. They divorced January 1958 in Los Angeles, CA.

Notes:
1. She had another daughter out of wedlock, June Cecilia , born Nov 25, 1924 in Salt Lake City, Utah and this child was adopted by Henry C and Ada L "Gilbert" Harvey. The Harvey family moved to Texas after the 1930 Census and her father would die in 1936. The fate of her adoptive mother as yet to be determined. June was found in Salt Lake City for the 1940 census living with her Henry Harvey's mother Suzy. June graduated from East High in SLC in 1943. June moved to California and would marry Gordon K Steenbock in July 1943 (Steenbock was a Sgt. in the USMC at the time), divorced in 1969 and apparently remarried Steenbock in 1974. She had the following children: Carol, Susan, Alison, Debbie, Kim, and Mark. June died Dec 17, 1999 in Torrance, CA (Memorial ID 72147079). "June was known to the family."

2. Only one William David Charles was found born and living in SLC. Son of George W and Florence and born in 1915. If this is the correct man he appears to have been married before and after their marriage. His father's 1965 obit noted he was in Logan, UT. This individual died in Texas in 1996. I have have linked his memorial, based on these clues.

3. Upon the death of Elaine, her last born daughter it was determined that not enough space was available for a proper stone for Elaine - so Elaine's family opted to create a combined stone for both and for the removal of Gram's original marker. (GLK 11/20/2020)
