WINNSBORO - A graveside service for Roy Alexander Lewis, Jr., age 90, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2009, in Greenbrier United Methodist Church Cemetery, conducted by Bishop Tony Ashworth. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29 at the family home, 1189 Hungry Hollow Road, Winnsboro, SC 29180. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Greenbrier U.M.C. Cemetery Fund, PO Box 212, Rion, SC 29132.
Mr. Lewis died on Monday, April 27, 2009, at his home. Son of the late Roy Alexander, Sr. and Jessie Caldwell Lewis, he was born on May 24, 1918, in Blackstock, SC. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retiree of Uniroyal where he worked for 40 years as an electrician. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Ridgeway Ward.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred Evans Lewis of the home; one son, Al Lewis of Winnsboro; and two sisters, Jessie Lewis of Charleston and Lucy Abbott of Rock Hill. Mr. Lewis was predeceased by one daughter, Vickie Caroll Lewis; one brother, Frank C. Lewis; and two sisters, Sarah Arrington and Anna Laura Lewis.
