Rev. J.F. McDaniel, one of the aged and best known Methodist ministers of the county, died at his home on East Jefferson street shortly after midnight today. He has been seriously ill for several days and his death has been expected at any time since Sunday.
Rev. J.F McDaniel was born in Bourbon County, Kentucky, May 23, 1823. He early removed to Indiana, and joined the North west Indiana conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1852 - one year after its organization. He was junior preacher on the Romney Circuit in 1853 and filled a like position at Augusta in 1854 and was the head of Calumet Circuit in 1855. His appointments following this were West Creek, Burlington, Fillmore, Cartersburg, Rockville, Clinton, Battle Ground, Fulton, Coatsville, Delphi, Terre Haute circuit, Summit Grove, Zionsville, Wingate, Clermont, Yountsville and Kingman. He moved to Crawfordsville in 1890, supplying Kingman from here and took a supernanuated relation in 1892. He was twice pastor at Burlington; first in 1858 and again from 1873-1875, and he will be buried there.
He was twice married, the children of his first union being dead. By his second wife, Martha Stockton whom he married in 1855, his children, Emma, Mrs. W.O. Jones of Indianapolis, Robert W, a clerk at Delphi, Fletcher, an employee of the CH&D at Indianapolis, and Wilbur G in the Big Four office in Crawfordsville, all survive him. All were at his bedside last night at 11:30 o'clock when Dr. Schell made his last visit and tenderly commended the sufferer to the Good Father of all. Rev. McDaniel was one of the faithful devoted men who by their goodness, sincerity and consecration give character in the ministry, and redeem human nature. He was broad minded, testified again and again to a person religious experience, and has touched the lives of hundreds by his preaching and by the beauty and simplicity of his life. Rev. McDaniel has been very active for the past few years in the work of the Prohibition party of this county He never missed an opportunity to speak a word for the good of the cause at any time or place. The funeral services will be held at the First Methodist Church Friday at 1 p.m. They will be under the general charge of Dr. Schell. Several able brethren whom the family desired to participate by reason of advancing years cannot be present. There will be a large attendance of preachers, however, and Dr. Curnick of South Bend ;Dr. Switzer of Lafayette and Dr. Walker of Greencastle will all be present. The funeral party will take the Vandalia train north to Cutler in the afternoon and down to Burlington for a service and interment Saturday morning -

The floral decorations were profuse and very beautiful. The funeral services were in charge of Dr. EA Schell, presiding elder of this district. He was assisted by Rev. P.C. Curnick of South Bend; Rev. George Switzer of Lafayette and Rev. AG Walker of Greencastle. There were a number of other ministers present. The first Methodist Church choir sang, Nearer my God to Thee; Jesus Lover of My Son, and Asleep in Jesus. The pallbearers were Dr. I.A. Detchon; C.W. Brown; B.F. Crabbs; E.N. Wicks; John Purcess and WQ O'Neall. The funeral party left this afternoon via the Vandalia for Cutler. A change will be made there and the body will be taken to Burlington, the former home of the deceased, where the funeral and interment will occur Saturday morning.
