Della Louise Stroud, 102, St. Clair, departed this life in St. Clair Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009.

Mrs. Stroud was born in St. Clair on Aug. 11, 1907, the daughter of Louis Bandermann Sr. and wife Mary, nee Murphy.

As a young woman, she was united in marriage to Clifford Haikens. In about 1927, she was united in marriage to Leo H. Kottwinkel and one son came to bless this union. On April 26, 1959, she was united in marriage to Lawrence August Stroud.

She is survived by her son, James Kottwinkel, New York, City, N.Y.; two nieces, Helen Hoff, St. Louis, and Belinda Hawkins, St. Clair; one nephew, Lawrence Gaur, New Haven; one cousin, Margaret Fenton, Union; many great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Mrs. Stroud was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Mary Bandermann; her husbands, Clifford Haikens, Leo. H. Kottwinkel and Lawrence Stroud; one stepdaughter, Mary Jane Ripp; one brother, Louis Bandermann Jr.; and one sister, Mary Cecelia Ballesty.

She was a Christian and member of St. Clare Catholic Church, St. Clair. During her working years, she was employed primarily as a secretary for a doctor in St. Louis.

Mrs. Stroud also had worked for a short time at Famous-Barr in the restaurant. She was in her 80s when she was employed as a cook for Trade Winds in Stanton.

Needless to say, she had remained an active lady as long as her health allowed and she enjoyed the fellowship of the many friends she made. Her son was her pride and joy and she cherished the time they shared.

A devoted and loving mother, aunt, great- and great-great-aunt, cousin and friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair, with Father Bob Knight officiating.

Interment was in Anaconda Cemetery, St. Clair. In lieu of flowers, Masses are preferred.

The family was served by Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair.
