James Edwin Bailey, a resident of Alpena, was born April 4, 1944, in Alpena, a son of A.R. "Son" and Avia (Massengale) Bailey. He departed this life Monday, Dec. 21 (2009) in Alpena, at the age of 65.

James was a member of the Arkansas Monument Association, Arkansas Cattleman's Association and American Quarter Horse Association. He was also a Mason, on the Alpena School Board, an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed racing horses. He and his wife were the past owners of Alpena Monument Works and North Arkansas Livestock Auction.

On July 19, 1961, James was united in marriage with Margie Gray who survives him of the home. He is also survived by one daughter, Kelley and husband Jim Estes of Omaha; grandsons, Brad Henson of Omaha and Brett Henson of Alpena; one sister, Juanita and husband Jim Walter of Alpena; one brother, Frank R. Bailey of Alpena; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pat and Carroll Molder; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and a host of other family and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Maxine and Lucille Dickens; and one infant brother.

Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, at Nelson's Green Forest Chapel. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 24, at Alpena Cemetery with the Rev. Les Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in the Alpena Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service, Inc. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
