Wayne was born in Miami County to the late Carl and Leah (Feller) Springer. He married Phyllis Polsley on August 30, 1952. She survives.

Wayne retired from General Motors in 1994 after 35 years where he was employed as a pipefitter. He was a member of the Marion First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men and Speeders. He was past President of the Eagles Lodge #227 and the Marion Lions Club and received the Melvin Jones Award, Lion of the Year and the Walter P. Woods Award. Wayne was a member of the CPC Sympathy Club and Local # 977 Retirees. He served in the National Guard for eight years. He was an avid golfer and bowler.

Survivors include wife, Phyllis Springer, Marion; daughter, Judy Thomas , Gas City; sons, Dennis W. (Robin) Springer, Farmland, Richard S. (Brenda) Springer, Fayetteville, Ark., Mark A. (Paula) Springer, Marion, Douglas L. (Elma) Springer, Marion, Michael W. (Linda) Springer, Marion; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; ten step great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Holland, Marion; and dog, Mollie.

He was preceded in death by parents and sister, Janet Oyler.
