Grace Struthers Snodgrass passed away from her home at Keosauqua, Iowa, Monday, Mar. 18, 1929, after an illness of short duration from influenza, turning to pneumonia.
Grace Struthers was born at Rolfe, Iowa, Nov. 1, 1867, the sixth child of Robert and Susan (McEwen) Struthers, pioneer settlers of the northeast part of Pocahontas county. She was thus past sixty-one years of age when the call came. She grew to womanhood on the farm north of Old Rolfe, was educated in the schools of Pocahontas county and nurtured in the Presbyterian faith. Her girlhood saw Pocahontas county in its rugged state, and she grew up a child of the prairies and ready for any challenge offered. After completing her education, she taught school for several years in various districts in the county. On Sept. 12, 1887, she was united in marriage to James McClure and to the union two children were born: Gilbert Glenn and Walton M. For about forty years the deceased was a member of the Rolfe and West Bend communities. About twenty years ago, she was united in marriage to P.E. Snodgrass, and soon thereafter moved to Keosauqua, where she has since resided.
She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, P.E. Snodgrass, and a step-son, Robt. Snodgrass; two sons, Gilbert Glenn McClure of Lima, Ohio, and Walton M. McClure of Kansas City, MO.; two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Mather and Miss Maggie Struthers of Rolfe, and two brothers, Wm. E. Struthers of Rolfe, and Andrew J. Struthers of Gardena, Cal.
The body was shipped to Rolfe Wednesday, accompanies by the two sons, Mrs. Ellen Mather and W.E. Struthers, all of whom had been called to Keosauqua by her illness, and taken to the home of her sister, Mrs. Mather. The husband and step-son were both unable to attend the funeral on account of illness. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Presbyterian church. six nephews, Arch and Robert Mather, William and Alec Struthers, and Dolliver and Robert Kent, actged as pall bearers.
