Alfred L. Fletcher, age 84, of Richfield, passed away on 11/19/02.
Navy veteran of WWII, serving as Skipper of a Navy LCT vessel. Influenced the lives of many students for 34 years as industrial arts teacher in the Minnetonka Public Schools. Two-term mayor of the village of Excelsior, from 1948-1952; in addition, he served many years on the city council. Al was famous for building Fletcher's Fantasy, a boat made from a Greyhound bus that he put into charter service on Lake Minnetonka. Member of Richfield Optimist club; AARP; model train club; and active member of Minnehaha UCC. Traveled with his wife, Phyllis, to many countries. Horseshoe nail jewelry was a hobby which he sold at craft fairs throughout the state.
Preceded in death by parents, Abbott and Louise Fletcher; brother, Fremont Fletcher; and step-son, Robert Harvey.
Survived by wife, Phyllis; children, Judy (Jim) Nermyr, Alan L. Fletcher, Deborah (John) Severn, Anna (Ed) Kohler, and Dennis Harvey; daughter-in-law, Sharon Harvey; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Joanne (Phil) Susag; sister-in-law, Betty Fletcher; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial service 2:00 PM Sunday at Walker Methodist Health Center Chapel, 3737 Bryant Ave S., Mpls. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery Mon. 10:45 AM, Assembly Area #2.
