Mahlon Benjamin was born in the upper Middletown Valley near Ellerton on May 21, 1848 a son of Samuel and Sarah Rice Green of Church Hill and was the husband of Mary Ellen Hoffman Green whom survives him.

Benjamin was a farmer, and farmed the same farm as his father and maternal grandfather before him had, 9-1/2 acres of land called "Shady Grove". (On Church Hill and Md. Route 17).

In addition to his wife he is survived by five daughters, Temmiezine P. "Tempie" Engle Stoner and husband Harry A., Flora Mae ( unknown if married), Ella Pryer Baker and Orzula Catherine Crum and husband Roy Lee, Lola Ann McDermott Michael and husband Sidney Burns, Frederick; four sons, Lewis Tilghman Green, Myersville; Mahlon Benjamin Green Jr. and wife Gertrude Hazel, near Myersville; Martin Luther Green and wife Elizabeth and predeceased by one son as a toddler, Wade Harrison Green.

Mahlon was also survived by one sister, Sarah A. P. Kuhn, and one brother, John Wesley Green and wife Rebecca, both of Smithsburg and predeceased by three brothers, Samuel Edward Green, Lewis Perry Green and Linus Green and one sister, Mary Margaret Green.
