Nannie (Nancy) was born in the Kentucky backwoods. She married Joseph Miller at the tender age of 16 on September 20, 1918. They had three children together. All three have since passed away. She came to California in the early 1960s following her two grown children who wanted a better life. Before coming to California she lived in Muncie, Indiana and in Lexington, Kentucky. When she came to California she chose to be called "Nancy" instead of Nannie. If you look at the top left of the colored photo of when she was older, you will see her signature "Nancy." The V on her headstone is short for "Vires."
