Came to Iroquois Co., Illinois April 9, 1856. Married 1) Rebecca E. Oppy February 4, 1858 and 2) Rebecca Ann Fleming (nee Bookless) May 14, 1876. Enlisted in the US Army August 15, 1862, Co. F Illinois Volunteer Infantry, was at Holly Springs when Genl. Earl (Buck) Van Dorn's cavalry captured supplies, thwarting U.S. Grants initial advance towards Vicksburg. Was later at a battle near Eastport, Mississippi. Was advanced to rank of Corporal before discharge at end of war. Was member of Williams Post No. 25, Grand Army of the Republic at Watseka, Illinois. Died near Woodland, Iroquois, Illinois.
