A native of Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Cecilia Ann Gouge Buchanan. She was a former employee of Bowman School Cafeteria and Ellen Knitting Mill. She was a member of Bakersville Methodist Church.
Mrs. Byrd is preceded in death by her husband, Ted R. Byrd, and son, Howard Byrd.
She is survived by three daughters, Alice and husband Fred Garland of Bakersville, Nell Coleman of Barnesville, Ga., and Teddy and husband Don Malone of Jonesboro, Tenn. two sons, George Byrd and wife Dorothy of Bakersville, Bradley Byrd and wife Patsy of Bakersville 14 grandchildren 19 great grandchildren four great great grandchildren.
Burial will be in Byrd Cemetery at Red Hill, N.C.
