An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum," Friday, January 26, 1968:

Edgar Newton Altum, 71, of Belton died in a Temple hospital at 5:15 p. m. Sunday.
He was a former resident of Gatesville.
Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Tuesday in Scott's Funeral Home chapel in Gatesville.
Rev. Hershel Doss officiated and burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Mr. Altum, a native of Bell County, had lived in Bell and Coryell counties all his life.
He was a veteran of World War I, and was employed by the post engineers at Fort Hood.
Mr. Altum was married to Miss Jay Guthrie on July 3, 1936. They resided in Gatesville from 1942 to 1962, when they moved to Belton.
Survivors are his wife; two sons, Thomas Wade Altum of LaMarque and John Dewayne Altum of Roswell, N. M.; a daughter, Mrs. James (Bonnie Elaine) Love of Temple; two sisters, Mrs. D. W. Diserens of Buchanan Dam and Mrs. Leslie (Kate) Hibbetts of Bertram; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers for Mr. Altum's funeral were Rickey Altum, Edward Altum, David Hicks, W. R. Moore, Jr., James Love and Jimmy Dean Guthrie.
