Lloyd Givan
R. Lloyd Givan, the son of Robert and Ada L. McFarland Givan, was born on February 8, 1892 in Webster Township of Madison County, Iowa.. When he departed this earthly life a few days ago at his home in Winterset, he had passed his 76th birthday. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Mrs. Kathryn Schrader of Greenfield, Iowa in 1952 and two sisters and one brother. Mr. Givan had spent most of his life in Madison and Adair Counties here in Iowa except for a brief period in Colorado. For most of his life he had engaged, in farming, retiring, and moving to Winterset about 8 years ago. He was a veteran of military service in World War I and had been a member of the Green-Rogers American Legion Post #184 in Winterset. He had been a member of the Wesley Chapel and Greenfield Methodist Churches.

On June 29, 1918, just prior to departing for military service, he was united in marriage to Rose Gladys Sawyer. Mrs. Givan died on May 28, 1966.

To this union 7 children were born, 6 of whom are among the survivors: John F. Givan of Denver, Colorado; Robert D. Givan and Rosalie (Mrs. Rex) Haymond of Winterset, Lyle Givan of Englewood, Colorado, E Louis Givan of Patterson, Iowa, and David A. Givan of Sunnyvale, California.

Other survivors include: 18 grandchildren, 2 great-granddaughters, 5 sisters, Mrs. Dell Tucker of Winterset, Mrs. Everett Brown, Cutknife, Saskatchewan, Canada, Mrs. Earl Wilson, Salida, Colorado, Mrs. Lloyd Hannon of Atlantic, Iowa, and Mrs. Edith Bevington of Council Bluffs, Iowa, one brother, Carl Givan of Macksburg, Iowa, many other relatives and numerous friends.

Memorial Services conducted by the Reverend Everett K. Burham were held in The First United Methodist Church at Winterset, Iowa at 2:00 PM on April 22, 1968. Burial was in the Greenfield Cemetery at Greenfield, Iowa.
