John Albert Porter was the youngest son of John Porter (1810-1849; memorial 112887645) and Eliza Jenkins (1815-1882; memorial # 43880211), who married in Marion County, Ohioon 11 Nov 1834, and moved to Indiana. He was born 17 Jun 1849, in Strawtown, Hamilton County, Indiana. His father died almost five months before his birth, and on 11 Nov 1851, his mother remarried to James Deakyne (1811-1870 memorial # 43880186) in Hamilton County, Indiana.

James Deakyne was a widower with ten children when he married John Albert's mother. Then, he and Eliza Jenkins Porter had two daughters of their own: Nancy and Rebecca. So, John Albert had five Porter siblings, ten Deakyne step-siblings, and two Deakyne half-siblings.

John had two Porter sisters, Catharine (1838/1840-?) and Amanda O Porter Karr (1847-1896; memorial # 44704043); and three Porter brothers: Tilghman (1835-1904 memorial; # 45997095), William (1842-1924; burial site unknown), and Samuel Jenkins (1845-1916; memorial # 45997127).

On 14 Sep 1881, John Albert Porter married Mary Elizabeth Siebert (1851-1906; memorial # 45997095) in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana.

John Albert and Mary had three sons: Hiram Edgar "Edgar" (1882-1947; memorial # 151204353); John Wesley (1884-1962; memorial # 8282298); and Adelbert Temple "Delbert" (1885-1973; memorial # 45996920). They also had a daughter, Mary Bernice "Susie" Porter Woolling (1890-1981; memorial # 46053735).

During his adult years, John Albert worked as a clerk, railroad agent, and conductor. He also served as Deputy Assessor.

From 1900 until his death in 1938, he lived at 1219 Prospect Street, Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana.
