He resided in Platte County, Wyoming prior to the war.
He enlisted in the Army on July 11, 1942 at Fort Francis E. Warren, Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as an Actor and also as Single, without dependents.
Jack was "Killed In Action" in the "Line Of Duty" at the Alconbury Royal Air Force Base in England along with 18 other airmen when, while loading B-17F (#42-29685), one of the 500 lb bombs exploded and caused a chain reaction of other explosions.
The explosions killed 19 airmen, severly injured 20 others, damaged 11 B-17's, and totally destroyed 2 others. The two B-17's destroyed were #42-29685 & #42-29706.
He was originally interred in England and was later repatriated here on April 26, 1949.
Service # 17054828
The reason he is named on a group headstone is because when soldier's were killed in close proximity to each other they were unable, at that time, to identify them separately and interred their remains together in one grave.
