Minnie W. Thomas
Minnie Winona Alley, daughter of G. W. and Nancy Norman Alley, was born in Burrell Township, Decatur County, Iowa, May 10, 1878. She was reared on the farm and attended the local grade school, later attending high school in Lamoni.

She passed away Dec. 21, 1963 as a result of burns when her home burned.

June 15, 1895, she was united in marriage to David O. Thomas. They lived a number of years in Lamoni where Mr. Thomas was employed as a printer. She was an artist by nature, studied photography in Des Moines and later operated a photograph studio in Lamoni.

They moved to Louisville, Ky., in 1906, where Mr. Thomas, held foremanship In large job-printing establishment. Here she continued her study of art, both oil and china painting, and did some beautiful work.

Later they moved to Akron, Colo., where they filed on a homestead and made their home for 12 years, after which they returned to Minnie's old childhood home in Iowa where they still resided.

She was a faithful and devoted Christian throughout life, reading her Bible and communicating with her God every day.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas had no children of their own but reared two girls, Florence and Winona Alley, daughters of her brother, Fred Alley, who devoted their lives to the interests of the family.

Besides her nieces she leaves to mourn her husband; her brother, Fred Alley of Creston; a sister, Estella Llewellyn of Akron, Colo.; one sister-in-law, Lola Alley; nieces Marie Wilkins, Des Moines, Mildred Todd, Arispe, Frances Alley, Creston; nephew, Fred Victor Alley, Kent, Iowa, a host of grand-nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held at the Slade Funeral parlor in Leon in charge of her brother-in-law, James A. Thomas, with burial in the Terre Haute cemetery among many relatives.
