KIEL – Herbert E. Hennings, 57, of 804 6th St., Kiel, co-owner of the Kiel Foundry and prominent in the civic and fraternal life of the city, died early today at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital.
In addition to conducting the business of the iron foundry, which he operated in partnership with his brother, Lawrence, Mr. Hennings was a director of the State Bank of Kiel and president of the Kiel Municipal Band.
Born in New Holstein, Feb. 5, 1898, he was a son of the late Edward and Mary Engel Hennings. He attended grade and high school in New Holstein later taking a course at an electrical school in Chicago.
He married the former Emma Ann Sperber of Sturgeon Bay, April 20, 1926, following which the couple lived in Kohler where Mr. Hennings was employed by Kohler Co., until 1939 when he moved to Kiel to begin the foundry operation with his brother.
He was active in St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed congregation here, having served two terms as deacon and elder, and was a member of Kiel Lodge 336, F. and A.M., and of the Harmony Chapter of the Masonic Order in Sheboygan. He was also a member and past president of the Kiel Chamber of Commerce.
Surviving are his wife; one son, Robert E., of Kiel, associated with his father in the foundry; a daughter, Miss Mary, a student at Villa Rose School, DeSoto City, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Roma Shell of New Holstein, and two brothers, Lawrence of Kiel and Lester of the town of Rhine.
He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
Services will be held at St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church, Kiel, with the Rev. E. L. Worthman, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Kiel Cemetery.

Funeral services for Herbert E. Hennings, 57, of 804 Sixth street, Kiel, who
passed away Friday, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, at the St. Peter Evangelical
and Reformed Church, Kiel.
The Rev. E. L. Worthman officiated, and burial was made in the Kiel cemetery.
Members of lodge 336, F. & A.M. escorted the body to the cemetery and Masonic
rites were conducted at graveside by Jacob Kertz.
During the services a double quartette sang, “Beyond the Sunset”, “My Task”,
and “Abide With Me”. They were accompanied by Mrs. Howard Vorpahl.
Pallbearers were Donald Bauman, Donald Hennings, Bernard Mayer Jr., Lloyd and
Roy Shell and William Sperber.
