Charles was a United States Army veteran serving his country during World War II as a medic. His honors include five Battle Stars and a diploma from the French Government for landing on Normandy Beach, DDay+6. He became a resident of Brownwood in 1947, working for Montgomery Ward from 1948-1953 and then as an Abstractor for the Brown County Abstract Company until his retirement. In his later years he greatly enjoyed square-dancing with his wife Molly.
